Our restoration process began with the latest high-resolution digital scans of the original 70mm film rolls from NASA’s Apollo Program archives. Using advanced photo-editing and color-grading tools, we carefully removed scratches, dust, and age-related damage from the Hasselblad camera film shot during both spacecraft and lunar surface missions.

Once the film imperfections were repaired, we meticulously restored the true colors originally captured by the astronauts, bringing back subtle tones of lunar soil, spacecraft textures, and the vibrant blues of Earth as seen from space.

The complete restoration and color-grading process took nearly a year. The result is a collection of previously unseen Apollo photographs presented with exceptional detail, tonal depth, and print fidelity. These images reveal the Apollo missions as never before, authentic, vivid, and closer to the original film than any publication to date.

Apollo VII–XVII is a large 27 × 27 cm (approx. 10.6 × 10.6 in) hardcover with 336 pages.

The book is published by teNeues (teNeues Books / teNeues Media GmbH & Co. KG), a publisher known for several iconic high-end photography and design titles.

Apollo VII–XVII is created by Floris Heyne, Joel Meter, Simon Phillipson and Delano Steenmeijer, combining expertise in photography, design and space history. The revised edition also includes contributions from Apollo 7 astronaut Walter Cunningham and a foreword by Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart.

The revised and extended edition expands the original collection with newly restored photographs, panoramic sequences, and a stronger focus on astronaut portraits from across the Apollo missions. Every image was re-evaluated and remastered using modern restoration techniques to bring out authentic color and detail true to the original film.

This edition also includes updated captions and contextual essays, offering a more complete visual and historical record of the Apollo era.

This edition features personal contributions from Apollo astronauts Walter Cunningham and Rusty Schweickart, offering rare first-hand perspectives from two men who helped make the Apollo program a reality.

• Walter Cunningham’s essay, “The Good Old Days,” recalls his experience as Apollo 7’s photographer. He discusses training with the Hasselblad camera, the challenges of shooting through spacecraft windows, and the emotion of capturing Earth from orbit for the first time.

• Rusty Schweickart’s foreword reflects on his Apollo 9 spacewalk and the profound “overview effect” of seeing Earth suspended in the darkness of space. He describes this book as the closest visual representation of what he remembers seeing with his own eyes.

Together, their words provide a powerful human dimension to the imagery, revealing what it felt like to witness and document humanity’s first steps beyond Earth.
